Vintage Fair 2011

September 21, 2011

In between weddings, ladies corsages and remembrance flowers, we’re busy getting ready for the Isle of Wight Vintage Fair this Sunday (25 September 2011).Poster advertising vintage fair

As well as the Jaybirds Flowers stall, we’re excited to meet other local businesses including Vintage Vacations, Retro Roobys, Oh So Vintage, Infamy Infamy, Rockabilly Noo’s Rockin’ Treats, Smith & Stephenson, I Heart Buttons, Cinderella’s, Vintage Hair Lounge, Vintage Cake Company, The Sisters Grim, CL Events, and Island Memories.

The Isle of Wight is a wonderful place for weddings and celebrations, with a wealth of unique suppliers and miles of gorgeous coast and countryside. With a second home in Cowes, we’re often asked to create vintage and retro themes for weddings and parties here, and this will be a great opportunity to show you how flowers can set the mood for any event.

Look  out for us at the Riverside Centre, The Quay, Newport, PO30 2QR this Sunday.

See you there!

Country charm wedding

September 20, 2011

Our most recent bride had her dreams of a wild wedding fulfilled this month, with a venue decorated to bring the outdoors indoors.

Nature gave the Jaybirds a helping hand as we used the best the countryside had to offer, including lavender, flowering mint, wheat and blackberries, to create a theme that Mother Nature would be proud of.

The early autumn sun emerged from the clouds to make a great day for a wild wedding.

Thank you very much, you’re one in a million

For feeding the cat, for being the best mum in the world, for all your help with my wedding… saying thank you with flowers is such a wonderful way to show the special people in your life how much they mean to you.

Here are just a few of the floral thank-you’s we’ve delivered so far this year. Each was met with a gasp of delight and even a happy tear or two. Turning up unannounced on a stranger’s doorstep has never been so rewarding, we hope you enjoy them too.

The Colour Purple

September 1, 2011

Our first summer in business has flown by in a whirlwind of beautiful weddings and parties. We’ve loved every minute of it and the Jaybirds are now looking forward to preparing for the festive season already.

But before we trade summer roses for holly and ivy, we’d like to take the opportunity to grab a cuppa and show you some of the beautiful flowers we’ve been working on recently.

Paula’s perfectly purple wedding was a dazzling display of vivid gemstone colours and sparkle last month. The bouquets and centrepieces smelled as good as they look, combining heady lavender with subtle sweet peas.

Deep purple and dusky pink roses, amethyst butterflies and water-storing gel crystals twinkled and reflected light, creating tiny, magical secret gardens on each table, with a stunning explosion of colour for the top table.

The apple of our eye!

July 19, 2011

We’re thrilled to be taking bookings for next spring already, and not least at this beautiful venue on the Isle of Wight.

Apple Farm in Freshwater, to the west of the island, is an orchard and postcard-perfect plot for an informal, rustic wedding. We’ll be complementing the natural landscape with tea roses, lavender and wild flowers for the bridal party and venue decorations. A reception marquee in the adjoining meadow will host several brimming hanging baskets to complete the village fete feel.

Vintage wedding – sneak preview

July 11, 2011

Hurrah for the sunshine! The weather held up this weekend to give our latest beautiful bride the vintage wedding she’d dreamed of.

Muted lilacs, dusky roses and wistful ivory combined for a romantic, old-fashioned feel, with a bit of bling for some contemporary added sparkle.

Look out for the official photos coming soon, but until then here’s a sneaky preview.

The Lecomber wedding

June 21, 2011

August 2010 saw the wedding of Amanda Reeves and Kenny Lecomber in Southampton.

After a beautiful ceremony, the guests boarded the Princess Caroline for a reception on the high seas (well, the Solent!).

Jaybird Flowers were delighted to create a cheerful celebration of flowers in sunny orange, gold and ivory. We even provided hand-painted napkins and table covers for the wedding breakfast, as well as all the bouquets, buttonholes, corsages and table decorations.

A tower of cupcakes was finished with a bespoke floral cake topper.
